Taking into consideration RFP issued by the Abu Dhabi Municipality and UPC's Plan Capital 2030, the design satisfies all the city's future development plans. After comprehensive market research, site visits, local surveys and several discussions, a detailed facilities program and components were identified. Population mix (41% Emirati, 19% Arab, 40% others) predefined family orientated functions such as nursery & day care, edutainment activities, entertainment & fun center, specialty cafes & restaurants, etc. as their number is expected to rise. This could also help with the shortage of these functions in the city.
The dynamic of the architecture makes the complex very active and inviting via pedestrian-oriented design and the outdoor functions such as amphitheater, F&B terraces, playground, weekend market etc.

Designed especially for car-lovers, this building is to provide entertainment and hospitality during the F1 Grand Prix event. The design took a very direct approach and devised a solution which mimics a racing car engine, even with cylinders and pistons. An elegant clear glass box encloses all the “engine parts,” and permits views of the vibrant social activities inside.

The idea is to provide a private female-only environment where women and their children may visit for sports, recreational, cultural and artistic activities, with also a health and relaxation side at Yas Island.
The subject was carefully researched, including analysis of existing Ladies Club facilities elsewhere, to see how they work, and to gain an insight into the kind of expectations the ladies may have, and to then perhaps be able to exceed them.
A very feminine character of the building, with a shading veil over it was designed. It contains for example centres for spa and wellness, sport and health, art and education, children, banqueting and prayer.

The design provides an environment of discovery, where the goods on display will be the main visual interest, and presents an attractive and inviting appearance along all of its edges.
The blind and blank sides so often found in modern shopping malls are avoided, this means at whatever edge, for example along the busy Alahmed Street along the northern side, or along Ali Bin Abdullah Street along the southern side, there are regular views into the development as well as of course opportunities to walk into it. A main benefit of this is advertising – people passing by will be aware of the contents of the development. Another benefit is that future developments may link into the site by providing pedestrian crossings.

Tyre Prints in the Sand
The main drive for the master plan was inspired by tyre prints in the golden sands of Arabia. These wheel tracks not only constitute the setting-out axis, but in finer detail also form the massing of the different blocks and external spaces. The project is to contain commercial, retail, entertainment and hospitality components as well as of course racing sports facilities. This ambitious project aims to become a major destination for residents and visitors to the UAE.

This wonderful site and its distinguished scenery provided the right element for creating the design direction. Integrating surroundings, natural elements (water & light) and function in a very harmonic fashion. The topography created natural terraces and the curvature which surrounds it, provided the main character and shape of the building - protective spirit or a feeling of being hugged not just by the building but by nature as well.
